why cant americans just use celsius it’s so much easier to spell than feiehreirheineiheit

do you mean degrees of FREEDOM

I had a thermodynamics lecturer back in second year who said that anyone using Fahrenheit would be beaten to death with their own copy of the text book.

Doing science? Use Kelvin. Failing that, use Celsius which at least has the same differences.

Not being a jerk in fandom

  1. Remember that yours is not the only fandom, nor is it the most superior.

  2. Acknowledge that size, age, or length of wait does not determine quality.

  3. It is not for you to say if someone else is, or is not a fan.

  4. Being a fan longer, or in more depth does not make you a better fan.

  5. Remember that everyone started somewhere.

  6. Accept that other people have different head-cannon to you.

  7. Be pleasant to those in your fandom, and those outside of it.

  8. Don’t steal other people’s stuff.

When asked “how do we do this?”

“As a team.” probably lacks the tactical insight that Tasha was looking for…

Just saying.

Checklist

Because writing lists helps me focus.

  • Abstract for report - 100- 300 words, mostly done
  • Introduction for report, which is kinda subdivided into What, why and how the report is to be done
  • Instrumentation - wherin the main body of work still lies. I keep getting put off by having to write about magnetometers.
  • Discussion - easier to write if I was 100% on what conclusion we’d reached. I shall leave spaces for when I see the data
  • converting bits of bulletpointed notes from my labpartner’s work to prose. -This I actually like doing as it’s just writing and writing English is far easier than understanding radar.
And it’s already light out (we are in 24 hr light now to be fair) so I best get cracking! Wheee seven hours ish.

You know my brain displays weird crossover instead of error messages?

I was in the Arctic circle, listening to a tiny Peruvian man try to explain  incoherent scatter radar gating and  my brain said

“You know what would be awesome?  Hawkeye is Dean Winchester who left after the end of s1 was significantly more fatal. No? Well screw you then”

Ok brain, I’ll rest you soon, I promise.

I am the preacher on the island,
Seven years I’ve lived alone.
I try and bring some comfort,
To this world of sea and stone.
There are no trees on the island,
Nowhere to shelter or hide.
Men tear rock from the quarry,
Or take their chances on the tide.
I fell in love with the wife
Of the man who lays the fuse.
When I heard the thunder from the earth,
I had to choose,
Between falling and cold cold calling.
They used to walk beside the water,
Voices blowing in the wind.
I would watch from the distance,
And I’d dream that I was him.
Then he found work on the mainland.
Oh how I prayed,
That something would tear them apart,
And force her to stay.
For I was falling into the cold cold calling.
Next day they called me to the quarries,
There was something badly wrong.
A man lay crushed by falling rock,
His life was almost gone.
I knew his face in the darkness,
I didn’t need to ask the name.
All my prayers were answered,
And i was the one to blame.
I closed his eyes in the dark,
She was running through the rain.
She took him in her arms and begged the Lord,
Give him life again.
Oh if I should live,
All the seven ages of mine,
Seven times will never wash all the blood,
From my hands.
I am the preacher on the island,
Oh I live on my own.
I try and bring some comfort,
To this world of sea and stone.
Like the chapels on the island,
My heart is dark and overgrown.
I used to pray but now I leave,
My maker well alone.
On the island.
On the island.

Show of Hands - The Preacher

Yet another song which confirms my belief that all folk music is about sex and death, well and religion in this case. The island of the song is Portland Bill, where you’re not allowed to say the word ‘rabbit’ for some odd reason, just off the coast of Dorset. I’ve been there and it is definitely bleak enough for this song to make perfect sense to me, although the lighthouse there is lovely.

(via nothingbutthedreams)

Really love this song. Never knew it was about the island of Portland, which is where a fairly large section of my Dad’s family live. There are definitely trees these days. Though I suppose it is a bit bleak in places…

The long-eared-furry-thing  thing, if you were interested, is because of mining actually, the long-eared-furry-things were often seen just before mining collapses (probably just abandoning ship when they felt tremors or something). I remember my Grampy telling me off semi-teasing for saying it out there when I little and really not understanding.
